[edit] Childhood

Alex Kim was born in 1968 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Although most of his friends (not his family) were Mormon during his childhood and he was known to have attended 'sunday school' the religion never stuck.

Alex often drives by East High, which is located in Salt Lake City, and is the school where High School Musical was filmed. Alex wishes he could have been a Wildcat at East High and follow in the footsteps of superstar teen sensation Zac Efron. Alex has become a regular in the audience at High School Musical on Ice productions. [1]

[edit] Professional Career

Although majoring in International Relations and Economics, Alex has spent the majority of his professional career in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Before entering pharma, he was employed as a pizza delivery driver, habilitation therapist, musician, sound engineer and calf sitter.

Alex's experience in pharmaceutical and health care has been almost entirely at small startups that eventually grow into larger organizations (whereupon he decides (or is asked) to move on). Alex started in business development at Theratech, Inc. which was acquired by Watson Pharmaceuticals. After receiving his Masters Degree in International Business, Alex began to work at the VivoRx group of companies in Southern California. During his time at VivoRx, Alex was intimately involved with the formation of American Pharmaceutical Partners (APP) - a company that changed its name several times over the following years - as of early 2008, APP is known as APP Pharmaceuticals. In 1998, Alex helped to start up Expression Genetics (which eventually moved to Huntsville, Alabama) and began working with MacroMed, Inc in Salt Lake City, Utah. For the next eight years, Alex was integrally involved in the business development, fund raising and operations of MacroMed, Inc. until it was acquired by Protherics, Plc. based out of London, England in early 2007.

As of May, 2008, Alex is a shareholder and Executive Vice President of LSK BioPartners, Inc., a international healthcare product development company which specializes in cancer drug development and international business development services for the pharmaceutical industry.

[edit] Other Interests

Alex has had varied interests. In the past he was deeply involved in blitz chess, auto racing and music. In the mid-'00s Alex decided to drop those interests to spend more time with his family, bicycle and alternative fuels. From 2006 to 2008 Alex was a ride leader for a local cycling team.
